The Problem
A BC municipality suspected significant water loss on an aging cast-iron main serving 800 connections. Night-flow analysis suggested 1.5M L/day minimum night flow.
Detection Method
Step-testing and acoustic correlation survey of 2.4km of distribution main during low-flow hours over three nights. Two leaks identified.
Results
Both leaks repaired within two weeks. Post-repair flow showed 1.2M L/month recovery. Annual savings estimated at $45,000. Report supported infrastructure renewal funding.
“We knew we were losing water but not where. The survey gave us pinpoint locations and hard numbers for council.”
